Once you hop into Popslime, you're enveloped by a rainbow of gelatinous monsters exploding into the battlefield, demanding fast reflexes and ever-advancing strategy. It's a brilliant mix of frenetic, screen-clearing action and deeply satisfying incremental growth as you turn a precarious situation into an unstoppable automated stronghold.
Popslime is super energetic when you first go in. You swipe down slimes one at a time; you have your pointer spinning all over the screen, you splash around with the trusty Archer and other tower friends, raining fire but not always targeting with a deadly ring blast. The pacing is excellent, with short, frenzied runs resulting in gobs of gold and uncommon treasure, allowing you to return to battle with more damage and survivability. Killing a monster always feels like it takes you somewhere, and the seemingly endless cycle of destruction and subsequent reinvestment is tremendously compelling well after the first 40 stages of the Popslime campaign.
Don't stockpile your gold – spend it wisely over the massive advancement web with more than 167 nodes. Farm them all in every chaotic run, but focus on getting the most damage out of them, as well as unlocking brand new battle systems and lengthening your run times, too.
Gather ores to manufacture special gems with 33 different stat enhancements and insert them into your equipment. Use eight mysterious effects at the Mysterious Well to add further benefits to those custom attributes and improve your automaton's defenses.
The most charming part of the encounter comes with the visual gratification of seeing your success. It's so satisfying to watch your screen fill up with Lightning Chains and Vampire Explosions as your Automator does all the work for you while AFK. The grind becomes much more satisfying as you begin hunting down the 15 uncommon Shiny Monsters for permanent boosts. The visual clutter (especially in the frantic Boss Runs with the Slime Overlords) can get a bit messy, but this chaotic energy is what satisfies the mass adrenaline rush at the end game of Endless Mode.
